We are the Hennessey family and you can find out more about us on the appropriately named, ‘About us’ page but to find out about why we have set up this website and what prompted us to record our adventures, read on…

It all started with a pilgrimage…

A few years ago one of Rebecca’s piano pupils talked excitedly about a new pilgrimage route that was rediscovered and established in North Wales.  It was called the North Wales Pilgrim’s way or Taith Pererin Gogledd Cymru (in Welsh).  Rebecca had always been intrigued by the idea of a pilgrimage and the interplay in the balance between the physical, practical journey and the metaphorical journey.  She explained that it was something she would like to experience, but the boys were young and leaving them for substantial amounts of time was not a choice she wanted to make and it did not fit into our family and work commitments.

In our busy lives as individuals we go to work or school and the weekends are filled with the usual household chores and although we attempt to carve out some time together as a family it can be a challenge.  As a family we discussed the idea of embarking on a pilgrimage together and we all agreed that it was something that we would like to do.  We decided that it would not be possible to attempt it in one long continuous walk, but we would split it into a series of walks over a longer period of time.  Although this may not be the expected way to complete a pilgrimage we felt that it was a way to make some special time in our busy lives, enabling us to have some time in between to reflect on our experiences.

And so it was…the first of our family adventures. This website is our way of capturing the journey we make as a family -the good times and the bad times – so that we look back on our achievements and memories and learn from them. We hope you enjoy reading our blogs.
